  • Goal: Learn to create refined, fitted garments with intermediate-level techniques and custom finishing
  • Complete: Three stylish garments - Polo shirt, shorts, and babydoll dress
Polo Shirt Prep & Cutting
Duration: 3.5 hours
Objectives: Understand knit fabric behavior, accurate measurements & pattern layout
• Course overview & review Intermediate 1 skills • Discuss knit fabric properties & handling • Take individual body measurements • Pattern reading: stretch directions, notches, placket, collar pieces • Fabric layout & cutting with proper grain alignment • Edge finishing demo
Skills Focus: Knit fabric handling, precision cutting, pattern alignment
Polo Shirt Assembly – Seams & Collar
Duration: 3.5 hours
Objectives: Sew stable seams on knit fabric, attach sleeves, construct collar
• Review knit seam stabilization techniques • Sew shoulder seams with stretch stitches • Attach sleeves using flat method • Sew side seams and underarm seams • Prepare collar pieces with interfacing • Attach collar to neckline
Homework: Practice straight seam and zigzag/stretch stitch on scrap knit fabric
Polo Shirt Finishing & Shorts Prep
Duration: 3.5 hours
Objectives: Construct front placket, hem polo shirt, begin shorts project
• Construct placket with interfacing • Create buttonholes or attach snaps • Hem sleeves and bottom edge using twin needle • Final pressing and fit check • Transition to shorts: pattern reading & layout • Fabric cutting & marking for shorts
Homework: Practice buttonholes on scrap fabric or snap attachments
Shorts Construction
Duration: 3.5 hours
Objectives: Assemble shorts panels, construct pockets, sew waistband casing
• Sew front and back shorts panels • Pocket construction (side seam or patch) • Sew side seams and inseams • Prepare waistband casing with fold & press • Create opening for elastic or drawstring tunnel • Press shorts and discuss fitting
Homework: Research waistband types (elastic, drawstring, flat) - pros and cons
Shorts Finishing & Babydoll Dress Prep
Duration: 3.5 hours
Objectives: Finish shorts, begin babydoll dress construction
• Insert elastic into waistband using safety pin • Hem shorts evenly • Add optional topstitching or decorative details • Introduce babydoll dress project • Pattern layout & cutting for bodice and skirt panels • Sew bodice shoulder and side seams
Homework: Practice inserting elastic and gathering fabric evenly
Babydoll Dress Completion & Showcase
Duration: 3.5 hours
Objectives: Complete dress with professional finishing
• Finish neckline with bias binding or facing • Gather skirt panels evenly • Attach gathered skirt to bodice with careful distribution • Hem skirt evenly • Final pressing and quality checks • Student presentations and group photos
