Female Bodice Sloper 101

This foundational course is ideal for designers, sewists, and patternmakers looking to build strong technical skills. In this hands-on class, students will learn how to create a basic female bodice sloper using traditional draping techniques on a dress form.

Class Details

  • Duration: 2 weeks (Saturdays January 31st and February 7th from 10am to 2pm. (4 hours each session))
  • Perfect For: Those who want to learn basic patternamking
  • Class Size: Minimum 4/Maximum 6 students, Classes with fewer than 4 enrolled students will be rescheduled
  • Age Group: Flexible - all ages welcome
  • Learn: Understanding the basics of designing and making a female bodice
Session 1 – Draping & Pattern Transfer
Duration: 4 hours
Focus: Students will learn how to:
Topics Covered:• Drape a basic bodice sloper on a dress form
• Take and mark measurements directly on the dress form • Remove the draped muslin and transfer it to pattern paper • Balance the pattern, match seams, and add seam allowances • Adjust the sloper for different body sizes and shapes
Homework Assignment: Homework will be assigned to cut and sew the completed sloper between sessions.
Session 2 – Fitting & Refinement
Duration: 4 hours
Focus: During the second session, the instructor will review each student’s homework, provide corrections, and refine the fit.
Topics Covered:
• Individual fittings will be conducted for each student, as fitting is a critical part of professional patternmaking • Each student will leave with a customized bodice sloper adjusted to their personal measurements • If time allows, additional instruction will be provided, including basic sloper manipulations

Once the class has started, we can no longer offer refunds.

All classes will be recorded. If you miss a class or need to practice at home, you may request the recording.
